Summary :
The aim and objectives of the Study Session
This is the second study session of VYRE. It’s concept emerged after the first study session organized by VYRE in June 2009 (Active participation as a tool for social inclusion: The current challenges of refugee youth), where access to social rights was identified as a crucial prerequisite for social inclusion and integration. During that study session the members of VYRE had the opportunity to discuss social inclusion more on a conceptual level. It was agreed that all the discussions and conclusions go back to the level of practical social rights, access to them and barriers to exercise them on a grassroots level, and that both concept and social rights still need to be explored further.

Therefore, the study session will seek to identify obstacles in accessing and progressively realizing social rights, as also their role in achieving social inclusion. Also, the study session will result in suggestions of possible solutions to the issues identified.

The study session will use tools of non-formal education and ICL, as the said have proven to be educationally conducive to the aims and purposes of VYRE.

The aim of the study session is to explore ways for improving access to social rights for young refugees at grassroots levels and increase young refugees’ social inclusion opportunities.

The objectives are:
- To deepen understanding of what social rights are and what is their relation to social inclusion
- To identify challenges in (progressive) realization of social rights at grassroots level.
- To present CoE’s standpoint on social rights/HR and social inclusion.
- To identify concrete examples, at grassroots level, showing how better access to social rights means better social inclusion.
- To look for possible solutions, through rights based approach, to improve access to social rights of young refugees at local realities.
- To identify specific needs of young refugees those differ them from youth generally.

Date and Place
The Study Session will take place in Strasbourg, at the European Youth Centre, on 14 (arrival date) – 20 (departure date) February 2011.

Enrolment Fee
The enrolment fee for study sessions is € 45 per participant. The fee is deducted from the reimbursement of travel expenses.

Application Procedure and Selection of Participants
32 participants will be selected on the basis of the profile outlined above by the Preparatory Team. The motivation and experiences of the individual participants are among the criteria taken into consideration during the selection process. Selected candidates will be informed by end of April 2009. A waiting list may be drawn up.

Summary :
The project "The North Meets The South" will be held in the Lisbon region, in which several preparation meetings, institutional visits (Office of the High Commissioner for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue, National Center for the Immigrant Support, Office for Intercultural Education and Training, Borders and Immigration Service, etc) and future projects will be thought and organized under the themes of development, cooperation and immigration policies of the several countries, highlighting the intercultural dialogue and the integration of immigrants in the Portuguese and European societies as well as effectively cementing the cooperation between youth organizations.

Using non-formal education methods of intercultural learning, the participants will take part in meetings that will offer different reflections and focus on particular procedures developed in several intercultural and integration projects and Programmes that involve the Portuguese authorities and national NGOs, and on the immigration policy provisions (immigration law, citizenship law, etc) at the local, regional, national and European level.

We expect this study visit to be the starting point of a series of potentially innovative and dynamic projects that will involve youth and immigrants. Thus, only organizations whose areas of intervention focus on the integration of immigrants, intercultural dialogue,

development and cooperation, and on the fight against social exclusion should apply.

Summary :
With the “2nd International Youth Meeting: European Citizen – Where are you?” we are going to establish a mire stable fundament of active citizenship, participation and non-formal learning. We will bring together project workers, youth leaders, facilitators and other interested youngsters from more than 20 different European countries, from programme countries of the EU and neighboring partner countries from SEE, based on the experiences made in summer 2010 in Germany.

In this spirit, the main aim of the youth meeting is, generally, to support the idea of an active European citizen. We have created a colourful programme, taking place on several floors, which includes a wide-ranging supply of thematic points. Those points are developed and selected in such a manner that they are covering different conditions and connected topics concerning an active European citizenship. However, the theoretical inputs and the discussions supported by political decision-makers and experts in youth work should not only encourage the participants to think about the corresponding topics, the supreme aim is always to derive improvements for the praxis of realising participation projects in the sense of the YOUTH IN ACTION programme of the European Commission.

Summary :
Background and need

This project was created as a local initiative in the year 2003. Every year a different country invited to participate in a local activity for cultural exchange and learning between Spain and the guest country. As there are many immigrants and foreign people in the village and the number is increasing, we have to create a cultural space for an interaction between people and help to develop tolerance, respect, awareness and rich intercultural learning.

Short description, Sum of the project

We want to organize a multicultural international exchange with more partners from different countries to develop Mostra de las Culturas (The Show Of The Cultures) into a international level. The project consists of different workshops with different areas of each culture – traditional music, dance, gastronomy, games. The last two days will be dedicated to show people the outcomes of the workshops in two public places – in the south of Galicia (Boiro) and the seaside ( Ribadavia) in the North-West of Spain.

Summary :
Our project will consist in organizing attractive and enjoyable intercultural activities. These will be intercultural evenings, theatre and carnival, cultural discoveries, multimedia projections and interactive round tables. During the project, the youngsters will have the opportunity to discover the cultural diversity of the European countries and to maintain an active dialogue with other young people from different cultural backgrounds. Also, they will learn more about their cultural traditions and customs.

With this project, we intend to promote the intercultural dialogue and the mutual understanding among young Europeans. We want, also, to promote the various cultural traditions and customs belonging to the European cultural communities. Also, we propose to develop among young Europeans a feeling of tolerance and acceptance of different cultural traditions. Through the proposed activities, we want to contribute to overcoming the cultural barriers between young Europeans and to combat the prejudices against different ethnic groups. Also, we want to promote the fundamental European values among these youngsters. We believe that cultural values represent a bridge between young people from different corners of Europe.

The main theme of our project is the European cultural diversity. The secondary theme is the intercultural tolerance.
